Internet and Politics
This is coming from a 2004 research topic where Europeans use the internet to form and research political issues. What I found is that only 8 percent were able to log on and willingly learn about the upcoming election online. The factors concerning this outcome where all based on age, gender, education, and occupation. What i realized is that these factors are extremely important when considering this. I drew some conclusions after thinking about each of the four criteria. Age is a major advantage to internet use. Our younger generations are able to grow up with this technology and adapt to it as it grows. The likelihood of these individuals using the internet is extremely high. Gender has as 50:50 ratio and even this depends on the education and occupation of the person. Those who have a formal education will be aware of the internet's ability to provide more information about an election than any other media types. Thus logging on for these individuals would be much higher. While those working a good job will be around technology that would provide them with this service. Also, those with enough money will more than likely own a computer for this type of thing. So what we are seeing is how the internet can be a major aspect of this idea. More research is needed to find exectly how the internet is influencing people and how much more people will use it.
