New Media...Literally
One thing that I attempted to do was break down 'New Media' into literal terms. First thing I did was start with the word new. Now this is not anything we don't think we already know. But if we dig deeper we realize that if we define it in simpler terms we come to a well thought out and managed definition. 'New' is best described as the way in which something is found in the present and contemporary tense. It is released and introduced for the first time. 'Media' is the plural derivative of its counterpart 'medium' which is the method or system that creates a delivery system of documentation. Medium in the past has been the paint for the canvas, the graphite for the paper, etc. It sets the wheel in motion for creation. It is the foundation and basis for the work that has been created. Now when we put these two together what we get would be similar to the idea of ' A contemporary method of creating documentation for communication'. It is very simple when thinking about it. The ways in which we do things are always changing and they will always be studied for further revisions. The media of today is relied heavily on computers and it is what we now consider a digital culture.
